The book is old, however, it is a true story that I used with clients to help them see the cycle of abuse and the consequences.

I Am Not Your Victim: Anatomy of Domestic Violence (SAGE Series on Violence against Women)

In this book the end was that she killed her husband. I found it to be very effective as a tool to help abusive women look at their situation and see the progression of the cycle and for them not to take responsibility for the abuser.

I found the book to be one of the best tools to use. However, if the counselor is like myself, you must have attended some counseling to help self so that your own demon related to the abusive situation does not show it's ugly face in a negative way because the aftermath of domestic violence never never goes away in your thoughts, actions and reactions.

The book's authors are Beth M. Sipe and Evelyn J. Hall.
